Postcard from Hungary: Bogács

Famous for its thermal bath and wine cellars, the village of Bogács has long been a countryside escape for holidaying Hungarians. The village is located in northeast Hungary, in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county and has a population of 2,700. At the southern edge of the Bükk Mountains and with Eger Wine Country all around, Bogács can be an ideal base for regional exploration. Thermal water was discovered here in the 1950’s and today the Bogácsi Thermlálfürdő offers healing sulfuric waters as well as a water park and a full service spa. Neighboring villages of interest include Szomolya and Noszvaj.  June’s end sees the Bükkalja Wine Festival and August, oddly enough, hosts the Polish Cultural Days.
